This Week's Recap

It's Friday & we've only had one day of indoor recess this week!

We started the week with our first skating venture. It was exciting! It was fascinating to see the range of abilities between the classes (those boards sure got a workout!) I certainly had fun getting out on the ice with your students.

Thank you so much to our parent volunteers -- I can't imagine how long skate tying would have taken without you! You were invaluable.

This week has been full of different activities. In E.L.A., we have been continuing our Media Studies unit. It has really been interesting to speak with students about their views on why we advertise and the effectiveness of different persuasive techniques. We have even been able to discuss colour theory and its application in advertising. This has followed us into Visual Arts where we have been working on logo paintings.

Next week I would like to look briefly at packaging. It would be lovely if you could send any boxes (brand name and otherwise) for us to examine so that we can further apply our fantastic analyzing skills!

Somehow I have gotten even more excited about measurement this week in Mathematics!  We have explored the difference between volume and capacity. We used water to estimate and explore the size of a Litre and a millilitre.

I was happy that our desks got an unexpected cleaning.

On Thursday, we explored the real-world applications of measurement further by baking scones. We also washed dishes. Many dishes. It was wonderful to see your students shine in a new way!

Upcoming next week:
  • Social Studies project due (Wednesday, Grade 4 & 5)
  • Introduction to the Trapper Challenge (Thursday, in-class)
  • Battle of the Books (Friday, Grade 5 only)
And finally - I came in to this on Thursday afternoon. I think it's worth sharing:
