This Week's Recap

Short & sweet - A busy but fantastic week! I hope you have a lovely, relaxing week with your student. They've been working hard lately and deserve to celebrate their accomplishments!

A few notes:
- Mathletics is always available to practice!
- A Science worksheet is likely on its way home this evening (We ran out of time today)
- Your students read almost 9,000 minutes during the course of the Read-A-Thon. Way to go!

This Week's Recap

Oh, Friday! It's nice to see you again!

What a busy week we have had! In E.L.A, we've been treated to some very interesting commercials, posters and new product ideas like the one below.

In Mathematics, we have continued to work on fractions. We will begin exploring decimals next week. We have also introduced Math Journals into the classroom. This rotation gives students the opportunity to explain how to answer, instead of just providing a number. It's been very informative. We also learned that my least favourite fraction manipulative are fraction circles.

We have begun our units on Light and Matter this week in Science. Students have used index cards to figure out that light travels in straight lines. Grade 5s have done several experiments related to changes in state and are exploring the properties of the three traditional states (solid, liquid & gas).

Thank you too for checking your email/messages so diligently! Everyone is prepared for swimming today (even if I wasn't quite...)

Please note the following in the coming week:
  • Our novel studies will begin on Monday
  • Notice about speeches will be sent home on Monday
  • Red, White & Pink Day is Friday
  • Read-A-Thon finishes on Friday
  • Battle of the Books is Friday lunch (lunches cannot be microwavable)

Please remind your students to pack their swimming gear!
